FWFS Consulting is the trading entity for myself, Alan Curran, a solicitor advocate (England & Wales) bringing over two decades of experience to help clients in handling the broad scope of issues that can arise across the shipping, transport, logistics and insurance sectors. I have worked in private practice in leading international law firms and in-house for major traders, ship owners and operators and have a significant amount of hands-on, practical experience working with owners, operators and traders. Against this strong commercial background I have developed a business-centric practice focussed on the commercial and operations needs of clients.

I have worked in a variety of countries and with clients from many different jurisdictions giving me a broad experience of the different legal and regulatory regimes applicable to my sectors of experience. I have also built an appreciation of the cultural differences in approaches to business and dispute resolution encountered around the globe.

Through my extensive work in dispute resolution, I have developed a wide expertise in risk mitigation and management. Whether that be through contractual mechanisms, processes/procedures or insurance. I help clients identify, manage and offset risks that they may encounter in their dealings and operations.

I have participated in many successful mediations and alternative dispute resolution procedures. As an accredited mediator I believe that this is a useful tool to facilitate the resolution of disputes whilst aiming to maintain business relationships and manage/avoid the costs of litigation or arbitration.

As a Fractional General Counsel I can provide support to companies who do not have the need for a full time or permanent general counsel or who are looking to build a new legal team. I have experience across the board in advising companies and boards on legal affairs together with building and running legal teams. I am particularly interested in ensuring that in-house legal advisors are seen as an integral part of the business and the wider risk management in the business to help the client do business better.
